About McGill Hall

Located in Muir College, McGill Hall is a six-story laboratory and research building with 42,992 square feet of assignable area. The building was occupied in 1970 and known as the Psychology-Linguistics Building. In 1990 the building was renamed to recognize the invaluable contributions of William J. McGill, a distinguished administrator and scientist. A leading mathematical psychologist, he is remembered for his original contributions to the auditory detection theory. Additionally, McGill was the university’s third chancellor and a remarkable leader during the tumultuous years of student and Vietnam War protests.
