The Ernest W. Mandeville Center for the Arts houses visual arts classrooms, the campus wood and metal shop, the University Art Gallery and the Mandeville Auditorium, one of the two major music and theatre oriented auditoriums on the UC San Diego campus. Designed by A. Quincy Jones in 1975, Mandeville Auditorium hosts a number of events throughout the year, from performances by UC San Diego student groups, like Muir Musical and the UC San Diego Gospel Choir, and off-campus organizations like the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus. The facilities are named after Ernest W. Mandeville, a major donor to a number of development projects across the campus, especially in regard to the arts and the library.
