About IGPP Revelle Laboratories

The Roger and Ellen Revelle Laboratory for Geophysics honors Roger Randall Dougan Revelle (1909-1991) and his wife, Ellen Clark Revelle, a grandniece of Ellen Browning Scripps. Roger Revelle first came to Scripps Institution of Oceanography as a student, became a well-regarded as a scientist and professor, then went on to become director of Scripps, a position he held for more than a decade. The Revelle Laboratory is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the UC system. It was designed by Fred Liebhardt, a former apprentice to architects Frank Lloyd Wright and Lloyd Ruocco, and is a fitting companion to the Ruocco-designed Munk Laboratory.
