This building was formally named in honor of the second director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Thomas Wayland Vaughan, in 2001. Vaughan Hall includes offices and laboratories that span a range of disciplines, including global climate change research, and is home to the Scripps Marine Vertebrates Collection, which includes approximately two million preserved specimens in well over 100,000 lots, representing more than 5,000 species of fish. The collection includes deep-sea, midwater, pelagic, and shore fishes from all over the world.
