About named building

The Robert Paine Scripps Forum for Science facility is the Scripps Institute of Oceanography conference center that hosts a number of high profile events from research conferences, symposiums, award ceremonies, and galas. The Robert Paine Scripps Forum is known for its incredible and award-winning architecture and its cutting edge conference technology, including state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment to user-friendly touch-screen computer systems. The forum is named after the Robert Paine Scripps, the son of Scripps Institute of Oceanography founder E. W. Scripps and nephew of patroness Ellen Browning Scripps. Robert Paine Scripps' support throughout his life insured the survival of the Scripps Institute, especially during the Great Depression, when he was able to double his family's monetary support and strategically arrange for additional government support for the institute.
