How to Get Started
Learn how to set up an Airbnb profile to maximize benefits when traveling on behalf of the university.
Whether you have an existing, Airbnb account or are a new user, you'll want to let Airbnb know that you are affiliated with UC San Diego by linking your UC San Diego email address to your account. You can do this without changing your personal email, login, or password.
LINK YOUR EXISTING AIRBNB ACCOUNT
If you already have an Airbnb account:
- Log in to your Airbnb account
- Click on Profile, scroll to the bottom to ‘Work Travel’ and enter your school email.
Next, you'll receive an email verification in your work inbox. Once you receive it, click Confirm work email, then follow the steps to complete the confirmation.
CREATE A NEW AIRBNB ACCOUNT
If you don't already have an Airbnb account, you can get started by creating a new account with your UC San Diego email:
- Go to the Airbnb for Work traveler page
- Enter your @ucsd email and Click continue
- Choose a way to sign up and follow the steps on the screen
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you get a "please enter a valid company email" error, be sure you aren’t using a public email domain (ex: gmail.com, hotmail.com) to link your UC San Diego email address. Make sure your .edu email is added under the Work Travel section of your account. To get there, click on the profile photo, then Edit Profile and scroll to the bottom to add your UC San Diego email address.
If you still see this error after entering a valid UC email domain, send an email to uctravel@ucop.edu with the UC San Diego email address you're trying to link.
BEST PRACTICES FOR WORK TRIPS ON AIRBNB
- Review your UC's Travel Travel Policy: You’ll find guidelines to make sure you’re staying within budget and in an accommodation type (entire home vs. private room) that’s company approved. Contact your campus travel office with any questions.
- Read Reviews: Be sure to read some of the host’s reviews on their listing page to make sure the general sentiments of other guests align with your needs. Tip: You can even see reviews that were marked as “Business Trip” to see if the home is the right fit for you.
- Review House Rules: Each host is unique and while they want you to have a good time, they also want to make sure you follow their house rules.
- Contact Your Host: You can message a host on Airbnb before booking their place to ask them questions about their availability, their listing, and your specific needs.
If you still get an error after entering a valid UC email domain, send an email to uctravel@ucop.edu with the UC San Diego email address you're trying to link.
