Eligibility for Relocation Allowance

Learn which positions are eligible for relocation allowance (compensation intended to offset higher living costs in a new location).

New employees

The employee must be classified as Senior Management Group (SMG). Requirements include the following:

  • The person, at the time of recruitment, must not be employed by the university and also must reside outside the state of California.
  • The total relocation allowance may not exceed 25% of the employee's annualized base salary.
  • The relocation allowance is included in the employee's gross income as taxable wages (but is excluded from covered compensation under the UC Retirement Plan).
