Setting Up iPhone/ iTouch/ iPad 6.x - 7.x for Mail Using IMAP

Follow these steps to set up iPhone/ iTouch/ iPad 6.x - 7.x to access your UCSD email account using Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP).

Before you begin

  • You need your Active Directory (AD) username and password. If you forgot your password, you can reset it.
  • If you aren't on the central campus mail server (mail.ucsd.edu), get your department's incoming mail server.

Microsoft Exchange

If your e-mail account has been migrated, change the following in your e-mail client:

  • Username (full and official UCSD e-mail address): username@ucsd.edu
  • Incoming server: outlook.office365.com

1. Set up an email account.

If you haven't set up a mail account on your iPhone/iPad, select Mail from the main window.

If you're adding a Mail account to your iPhone/iPad, select Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and finally Add Account.

2. Select the account type.

Select Other to set up your IMAP account.

Click Add Mail Account to set up the account.

3. Specify account information.

Enter your Name, Address, AD password and Description (email address).

Click Next.

Verify IMAP is selected.

Set the Incoming Mail Server Host Name to: mail.ucsd.edu

Enter your AD username and password. Your username is usually the part of your email address before the @ symbol.

Set the Outgoing Mail Server Host Name to: smtp.ucsd.edu

Enter your AD username and password.

Click Next

Click Save to save your settings.

Your mail will start to sync
