Equipping New Spaces

Learn about the new 600-seat lecture hall in the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood.

Several IT Services teams joined forces during the past year to outfit the new 600-seat lecture hall in the recently finished North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood. A part of the vibrant, mixed-use community space, this state of the art lecture hall now features some truly innovative classroom technology and networking. The hall, located between Muir and Marshall Colleges on the west campus, officially opens September 23, but not before IT Services equipped the space with seamless and modern audio, visual and online collaboration capabilities. The effort, however, was not without its fair share of challenges.

“While the pandemic closed campus and forced most staff to work remotely, several IT Services teams remained to meet important technology enhancement deadlines," said Senior Director of Education Technology Services Dan Suchy. "UC SanDiego is growing rapidly, and IT Services is tasked with growing our technology to meet the campus’ needs. Everyone really pulled together to make this happen.”

Work completed in September, and thanks to this multi-team collaboration, UC San Diego’s flagship lecture hall was completed in time for a busy Return to Learn Fall Quarter.
