Officer

Federal Grants and Cooperative Agreements**

  • Definition: Direct grants and cooperative agreements from federal government agencies. Awards follow 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance).
  • Sponsor: US Federal Governement Agency
  • Type: Grant

University of California (UC) Programs

  • Definition: Programs administered directly by the UC Office of the President (UCOP) or through another UC campus on behalf of UCOP.  While originally funded by State sources though funded directly, not as a subaward
  • Sponsor: UC Campuses/Organizations
  • Type: Grant, Cooperative Agreement, Contract.

Fellowships (General Campus)

  • Definition: Funding support to individuals for career development (i.e. postdocs, early career faculty).  Can be from any sponsor type.  OCGA only handles fellowships processed through General Campus departments.
  • Sponsor: All Types
  • Type: Fellowship (OCGA)

Senior Officer

Non-profit Agreements

  • Definition: Direct research funding from a non-profit organization [503(c)(3)] regardless of agreement type.
  • Sponsor: Foundation/ Trust, Charitable Organization, Business Related/ Interest Group
  • Type: Grant, Cooperative Agreement, Contract

Incoming Subaward Grants**

  • Definition: Subaward where the prime agreement is a GRANT, regardless of the prime sponsor or pass-through entity. Example: NIH → Salk Institute → UCSD
  • Sponsor: All Types (Sponsor and Prime Sponsor)
  • Type: Sub-award Grant

Principal Officer

Industry Agreements (including PI-Initiated Clinical Trials)

  • Definition: Direct research funding from a for-profit entity, regardless of agreement type.
  • Sponsor: Business/For-Profit Entity
  • Type: Grant, Cooperative Agreement, Contract, PI-Initiated Clinical Trial

Federal Contracts

  • Definition: Direct contracts with federal government agencies.  Awards use Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clauses.
  • Sponsor: US Federal Governement Agency
  • Type: Contract

California and Other Government Agreements

  • Definition: Direct research funding from California State, local and municipal agencies, and other US state agencies, regardless of agreement type.
  • Sponsor: State of California, Other Government Agency (domestic)
  • Type: Grant, Cooperative Agreement, Contract

Foreign Government Agreements

  • Definition: Both direct funding and incoming subawards where the primary funder is a foreign government entity.
  • Sponsor: Other Government Agency (foreign)
  • Type: Grant, Cooperative Agreement, Contract, Sub-award Grant, Sub-award Contract

Incoming Subaward Contracts

  • Definition: Subaward where the prime agreement is a CONTRACT, regardless of the prime sponsor. Example: General Dynamics → UNC → UCSD
  • Sponsor: All Types (Sponsor and Prime Sponsor)
  • Type: Sub-award Contract

Sponsor is the UCOP defined sponsor type, to lookup the sponsor type for a specific sponsor code please use the eRAP Sponsor Finder Report.

** NIH grant and subaward grant proposal submissions for Health Sciences investigators are submitted by HS SPPO, award/post-award actions are handled by OCGA
