Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC)
ACT initiated and developed the BICC to modernize campus-wide Business Intelligence (BI) capabilities. This involved developing data models and reports, and providing targeted Cognos training to departments. Our goal is to facilitate BI self-service to improve decision-making.
Next Generation Network (NGN) Upgrades
ACT completed NGN upgrades of the wired and wireless networks in campus buildings, installed new electrical and air conditioning systems in the major node room at the Central Plant Building, and reinforced the backbone fiber cable. We maintain more than 4,000 miles of fiber cable and operate one of the largest campus networks in the nation.
Upgraded Telephone System
ACT completed a major hardware and software upgrade to the campus’ main telephone system. The upgrade replaced the Group Switch, a potential single point of failure, with a robust IP switching infrastructure. Now the upgraded phone system can support multiple network systems across geographically dispersed locations, and scale to support up to 500,000 communication devices, meeting campus voice communication requirements for the foreseeable future. The new system uses our core IP backbone to provide better voice over internet protocol (VOIP) service.
