Research Ramp Up Guidance

Guidelines for returning to work.

Research areas must comply with Campus and County COVID-19 Public Health orders before reopening. UC San Diego has developed guidance and checklists to minimize infection rates and keep personnel safe.

  • Ramp Up Checklist for Research Areas (Non-labs) - (PDF) (Word)
  • Ramp Up Checklist for Hazardous Material Research Labs and Shops  - (PDF) (Word)

Note: Modifications may occur over the next few days as the campus coordinates the ramp-up process.

EH&S has modified the County Social Distancing and Sanitation form to assist departments with evaluating, documenting, and communicating the PI or research area plans. See UC San Diego Social Distancing and Sanitation Protocol for Researchers.

State and County officials require employers to take these steps to protect employees, students, and visitors from the spread of COVID-19. Essential departments working on campus during this time must ensure compliance with county Public Health requirements listed in the form:

  • Supervisors must communicate social distancing and sanitation plans.
  • Enforce campus face-covering requirements
  • Daily health screenings for employees, students, and visitors when entering research areas. Screening Guidance of Personnel and Visitors.
  • Educate staff on symptoms of COVID-19. Inform employees, students, and visitors to stay home if feeling ill.
