MediaSpace

Want to create or manage videos outside of Canvas? MediaSpace is the answer.

UCSD partners with Kaltura to allow instructors to more easily create, edit, and deliver videos in Canvas. But they also provide a standalone site to allow all community members with active directory credentials to take advantage of the same features: MediaSpace (https://mediaspace.ucsd.edu.)

Instructors who use Kaltura within Canvas know that its features can only be accessed within their courses, which may give the impression that Kaltura is only available to instructors. Not so! MediaSpace allows non-instructors to leverage all of its functionality: creating or uploading videos, editing them, and delivering them. But because MediaSpace isn’t within Canvas, users can make videos more broadly visible to non-UCSD users, and there are opportunities for departments and groups to create "channels" to manage content.

Check out the short overview video below to learn more about what MediaSpace can do for you.

The pages below provide tutorials on how to use the various features of Kaltura within MediaSpace. Open any of the drawers below to find articles and videos on a variety of topics.

Adding Videos

There are a variety of ways for videos to end up in "My Media" in MediaSpace. You can upload video files yourself, create entries for YouTube videos, or create your own video using Kaltura Capture. In addition, if you record a Zoom session to the cloud, that recording will automatically end up in "My Media."
