Access Control: Lock and Key Services

The UC San Diego Lock Shop ensures the safety and security of campus facilities by establishing and maintaining Master Key and electronic access-control systems for all campus buildings.

Medical Center employees: For repairs and maintenance, including keys, call Facilities Engineering in Hillcrest, (619) 543-6454, 24 hours a day.

How to Request Key or Lock Changes

Follow these steps to request key or lock changes. For security and safety reasons, customers must submit all key and lock change requests in writing.

  1. To request key or lock changes, complete form 2144.
    • If you only need one form, check with your departmental business office.
    • You can order this form in pads of 10 from Imprints, through PrintConnection.
  2. Send the completed form to Facilities Management, Mail Code 0908 for processing.
    • The Facilities Management Customer Relations help desk processes all campus key and lock requests.
    • You can check the status of your request by contacting the Customer Relations help desk, (858) 534-2930.
  3. Pick up your key(s). For security reasons, customers must pick up requested keys at the Customer Service Center, at the north entrance of Campus Services Complex, Building C (map). A parking space designated “Key Pickup” is available for your convenience.

Other Services

Locksmiths perform preventive maintenance on door hardware and repair/replace locksets as needed. The Lock Shop performs these customer-funded services upon request:

  • Provide security consultation and advise on appropriate access control systems to meet specific space and security requirements
  • Maintain electronic UCID door card-swiping systems
  • Cut keys
  • Re-key doors, cabinets, and desks (Departments are responsible for all costs associated with key replacement and re-keying of locks, including replacement keys for Facilities Management.)
  • Change combinations on safes
  • Provide key verification/access for authorized users
