Developing on the Job

  • Join a Toastmasters Club
  • Teach a course on a topic about which you know a lot

  • Make a presentation at a staff meeting
  • Learn about an unfamiliar topic, process, service or product and make a presentation
  • Train customers on how to use your unit’s services or products

  • Feedback from Others (this will be expanded to explain how to get the feedback and how it can be used)
    • Seek feedback from professionals trained and certified in your area of development, your boss, direct reports, past associates or constituencies, internal and external customers, HR professionals, peers and colleagues
    • Seek feedback from a wide base of diverse constituencies and individuals
    • Hire a tutor or coach
    • Ask a trusted advisor to observe you training or making a presentation and ask them to give you feedback
