The Internship Initiative is an Equal Opportunity Services program that creates internship opportunities for staff employees, while offering support for their training and career development.

Public Affairs/Chancellor's Office IC19-80

Worksite: 3333 Torrey Pines Court

Internship will be 50% for 1 year

Note: Due to the nature of outreach, a flexible schedule is required. For example: 3 – 5 full days in the internship may be required in exchange of 3 – 5 full days in the home department.

This internship is open to all UCSD career staff who have completed their probationary period, are committed to University of California employment, have achieved a “met expectations” or ”solid performance” or better on their most recent performance evaluation, have their written career plan, and are seeking advancement at UCSD. This internship is open to those who have not done an internship in the Chancellor’s office. If you have completed an internship in the Chancellor’s office, please do not apply.

This internship will be a unique opportunity for a staff member to obtain training in the following functional areas: Public Affairs/Chancellor's Office 

The intern’s responsibilities include:

  • Organize events for campus leadership, elected officials, and community members
  • Conduct background research for talking points and briefing documents for campus leadership
  • Draft official correspondence from campus leadership to elected officials and other community members
  • Create PowerPoint presentations

If you possess the following skills and knowledge, please consider applying for this internship:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Knowledge of the campus-wide institution and campus leadership structure 
  • Resourceful, flexible, and a self-starter. Knowledge of customer service, phone, and email etiquette
  • Ability to coordinate logistics for event planning, including working with UCSD departments 
  • Strong demonstrated working knowledge of UC related computer applications and technologies, including web-based tools such as G suite
  • Ability to perform administrative skills with a high level of proficiency and competency, including managing complex calendars, coordinating meetings and events, and note taking

Skills & Knowledge Intern Can Expect to Gain:

  • Enhanced understanding of the political landscape at the local, state and federal levels 
  • Networking skills to work with all levels of the campus community 
  • Working in a fast-paced community environment
  • Management of large, high-level events, sharpened interpersonal and writing skills
  • Initiating and tracking complex issues and projects to completion 

VC Health Sciences - Academic Resource Center

This internship will be a unique opportunity for a staff member to obtain training in the following functional areas; Academic Faculty Recruitment, Academic Appointment and File Reviews, and Academic/Faculty Compensation. 

The Intern’s Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with the posting and sourcing of Academic Recruitments, ensuring compliance and adherence to policies and procedures
  • Assist with editing Biographies and Bibliographies
  • Implement Faculty, Academic and MSP salaries in PPS
  • Assist Project Manager with Change Management documentation and roll out strategy related to the UC Path initiative

  If you possess the following skills and knowledge, please consider applying for this internship:

  • Analytical and problem solving skills to conduct analysis and make recommendations
  • Attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills to coordinate large volume of work, establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) databases and web-based systems

 Skills & Knowledge Intern Can Expect to Gain:

  • UC Academic HR Concepts, policies and procedures
  • Recruiting faculty/academic candidate
  • Assembling an academic/faculty file for review of merit and advancement
  • Gain knowledge of new systems and case management software
