Temporary Work Opportunity Clearinghouse

Learn how to request additional temporary staff support in your area or indicate staff availability to support other areas.

UC San Diego is continuing to adapt to changes in operations during these extraordinary times of global pandemic. We recognize that the impact of the Coronavirus has meant some business operations and staff have been asked to take on significant new work responsibilities, while at the same time we may have staff who have bandwidth and a desire to contribute their work and skills in other UC San Diego areas that need temporary additional labor resources.

In the Triton spirit of innovation and collaboration, we are pleased to offer the UC San Diego Temporary Work Opportunity Clearinghouse, a collaboration designed to bring together operations that need work with those who have skills and talent to offer their colleagues. Managers who need additional help in their areas can connect with the Clearinghouse and identify the nature of the help they are seeking. In parallel, managers who have identified that employees in their units have bandwidth can identify those employees by job position and skills. The Clearinghouse will look for a match and manage the connection.

The program is managed by Human Resources through its Temporary Employee Services division, which has a strong track record of providing temporary services across campus. If you have questions about the Temporary Work Opportunity Clearinghouse, contact t-woc@ucsd.edu.

If you have staff with help to offer, or are in need of help for your area, complete and submit the form below.

*Please note that as of November 2021, we do not have any active staff looking for redeployment in the Temporary Work Opportunity Clearinghouse at this time. If you are in need of extra support in your department, we recommend that you submit a request for a TES employee through TESOnline

Learn More About the Clearinghouse Process

Here are a few important things to know about the Temporary Work Opportunity Clearinghouse:

  • If your department is already engaged in redeploying staff within your unit, you do not need to use the Clearinghouse service. However, if you would like to take advantage of the structure the Clearinghouse offers, you are welcome to use it for internal staff redeployment support.
  • The T-WOC program is available for use by current policy-covered or represented career staff across all university departments, including UC San Diego Health System and Health Sciences.
  • Participation in the Temporary Work Opportunity Clearinghouse is not mandatory.
  • Managers who are requesting staff support or seeking opportunities for their staff should be sure to inform their department's HR contact about their participation in T-WOC.
  • Available staff will be redeployed into roles with a similar skillset and title code and will thus continue receiving the same pay as their regular role.
  • The requesting department pays 50% of the salary of the staff member that is redeployed to their area. These financial transactions will be handled by the financial representatives of the loaning and requesting departments (not by Human Resources).

If you are a manager seeking temporary opportunities for staff in your area who have extra bandwidth:

  1. Work with staff to assess your team's workload and bandwidth. Be sure to take into consideration ways your staff might be redeployed internally to support your department before submitting them to the Clearinghouse.
  2. If you identify one or more staff members who have bandwidth to support another unit, consider the following factors:
    1. Interest and comfort level of staff member regarding temporary redeployment
    2. Skill sets and knowledge that might be transferable to other units
    3. Is the staff member available for remote work opportunities? That is, does the staff member have the equipment and skills necessary for remote, computer-based work?
      1. Note: Both on-campus work opportunities and remote work opportunities may be available through T-WOC.
    4. Can the staff member be redeployed on a full-time or part-time basis?
    5. Is the staff member available to be redeployed immediately or at a later date?
  3. Using the information generated in Step 2, complete the form below.
    1. If you are seeking opportunities for multiple staff members, please complete a form submission for each individual person.
  4. After you submit the form, a Human Resources representative will reach out to you to perform a detailed intake.
  5. If the Clearinghouse identifies a match, they will reach out to the inquiring manager and then to the available employee to discuss the details of the opportunity.
  6. The Clearinghouse will then connect the available staff member with the manager from the requesting department.
  7. Further logistics are to be coordinated between the loaning and requesting departments.
