Eligibility for Payment of Staff Move/ Transfer Expenses

Subject to the availability of funds, some employees' moving expenses may be paid according to the eligibility requirements below.

Note: You need approval by the appropriate authority for payment of move/ transfer expenses for new or transferring employees.

The employee must have been hired for a position that requires specialized training or experience of a technical, professional, or administrative nature.
The employee is eligible for full reimbursement of transferring costs if the move is due to one of the following reasons:
- The employee's skills are needed at a university location that is outside reasonable commuting distance.
- The employee accepts a position at a higher salary grade at a new university location that is outside reasonable commuting distance.
- The employee must transfer to a new place of work that is outside reasonable commuting distance because UCSD has relocated offices, teaching facilities, or laboratories.
- The employee has accepted a position of the same or lower grade at a campus that is located outside reasonable commuting distance.
- A Senior Manager or Support Staff (not a Manager, Senior Professional, or Professional) accepts an employee-initiated promotion at a campus that is located outside reasonable commuting distance.
