Campus-wide Password Reset

Password Change

As of September 12th, passwords have begun to expire for those who did not change their password by the deadline.  If you feel your password has expired, please go to the password recovery page for further instructions.

Due to a security event, we have instituted a campus-wide password reset required by faculty, staff, and campus affiliates as a preventative security measure to help avoid unauthorized access.

You must change your Active Directory (AD) password before September, 12, 2012. If you last changed your password prior to September 5th, 2012, you must change it again by the deadline.

Starting September 12th, accounts will be locked for those users who have not changed their password. To avoid disconnection of campus services including, wireless networking, virtual private networks (VPN) and other related systems, use the steps below to change your Active Directory password.

If the password reset instructions you received from your local IT support team are different from these instructions, please follow the instructions they provide.

The recommended way to change your password:

Visit http://password.ucsd.edu to reset your password using several possible options, including using your existing password or providing your personal ID information.

Alternatively, if your email lives in the central campus environment (Exchange):

You may reset your password by logging into the webmail system by visiting https://mail.ucsd.edu/ in your web browser.  Click on "Options" in the upper right, then choose "Change Password".

Alternatively, if your email lives in the Health System mail environment (Exchange):

You may reset your password by logging into the webmail system by visiting https://hsmail.ucsd.edu/ in your web browser. Click on "Options" in the upper right, then choose "Change Password".

Please note:

  • Your local departmental IT group or sponsor (PI, etc.) can assist you in resetting your password.
  • You will not be able to change your password to a previous password. 
  • Be sure to update your mobile devices with your new AD password for continued access to e-mail and the campus wireless network.
