Setting Up a Firewall: Norton Internet Security 2004 for Windows - Advanced

Learn how to make exceptions for specific services for the Norton Internet Security 2004 Personal Firewall.

1. Enable or disable specific programs by name.

  • Start in the main Norton Internet Security window (the end of the instructions on the basic settings page), select Personal Firewall, and click the Configure button in the lower right portion of the window.

2. Change the program control.

  • Click the Programs tab of the "Norton Internet Security" window.
  • Under the "Manual Program Control" heading, scroll down the list of programs. The firewall automatically sets the "Internet Access" at default levels.
    • If your program is listed, select it. Use the drop-down menu under "Internet Access" to allow or block access.
    • If your program is not listed, click the Add... button.

3. Locate a program.

  • Use the "Select a program" window to locate the program.
  • Click Open.

4. Permit or deny the program.

  • Choose to permit or deny access in the "Program Control" window and click OK.
  • Assign a category to the program in the "Application Category" window and click OK.

5. Finish setup.

  • When you finish adding exceptions, click OK to save your changes.
