How to Use Call Diversion

Learn how to divert your incoming calls to an alternate phone number or to voice mail.

This feature must be programmed by Telecommunications Services. Use the instructions on this page after the feature has been programmed on your desk phone.

Note: To place an order for call diversion, submit a Customer Service Request (CSR).

Expand all

1. Use the no-answer feature.

How it works: If your phone isn't answered after about four rings (14 seconds), the call will be diverted to an alternate phone number or to voice mail.

  • To activate:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press * 2 1 #
    3. Listen for an interrupted dial tone
    4. Replace the handset.
  • To cancel:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press # 2 1 #
    3. Listen for a normal dial tone.
    4. Replace the handset.

2. Use the busy feature.

How it works: If your phone is busy, other incoming calls will be diverted to the alternate phone number or to voice mail.

  • To activate:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press * 2 2 #
    3. Listen for an interrupted dial tone.
    4. Replace the handset.
  • To cancel:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press # 2 2 #
    3. Listen for a normal dial tone.
    4. Replace the handset.

3. Use the no-answer and busy features.

How it works: The no-answer and busy diversions work together to divert calls if your phone is either unanswered or busy.

  • To activate:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press * 2 1 #
    3. Listen for an interrupted dial tone.
    4. Press Clear.
    5. Press * 2 2 #
    6. Listen for an interrupted dial tone.
    7. Replace the handset.
  • To cancel:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press # 2 1 #
    3. Listen for a normal dial tone.
    4. Press Clear.
    5. Press # 2 2 #
    6. Listen for a normal dial tone.
    7. Replace the handset.

4. Use the all-calls feature.

How it works: The all-calls feature diverts all your calls immediately to the alternate phone number or to voice mail; your phone will not ring.

  • To activate:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press * 2 #
    3. Listen for an interrupted dial tone.
    4. Replace the handset.
  • To cancel:
    1. Lift the handset.
    2. Press # 2 #
    3. Listen for a normal dial tone.
    4. Replace the handset.

5. Use the no-diversion feature.

How it works: This feature stops your phone from diverting calls by canceling the no-answer and busy diversions.

  • Follow the "To cancel" steps in steps 1 and 2 above.
