Learn how to configure your Windows 2000 or XP machine with an older NAT box to use the UCSD Virtual Private Network (VPN) to make a secure connection to the campus network.
Follow the listed steps to ensure that your VPN is working correctly. Some older NAT boxes have problems translating LAN to WAN. When this happens, the VPN client will connect successfully, but all applications start, hang, and eventually time out with a connection failed error.
Notes:
- These instructions refer to computers running the Windows 2000 or XP operating systems and Cisco Version 4.0 or above of the Cisco Systems VPN Client.
- You need to know your UCSD network username and password. If you've forgotten your username or password, see Getting or Changing UCSD Passwords.
- Windows 2000 meets Minimum Network Connection Standards only if you've purchased an extended support contract from Microsoft.
