Zoom Account Types

Compare the features of the Basic and Pro Zoom accounts.

UC San Diego Faculty and Staff are eligible to obtain a Zoom Pro account. Students are eligible for a Basic account only.

Use the features below to decide if you should:

  • Use a free UCSD Zoom Basic account (login required)
  • Submit a request for a Zoom Pro account (sign up for a free account first).

Account Differences

Advantages of a Zoom Pro account include:

  • Removal of the 40-minute time limit on meetings
  • Personal meeting ID customization: we recommend changing this to your desk phone number.
  • Personal vanity URL customization (5-character minimum):  we recommend a nickname, your first and last name, or your email username (the letters before the @ucsd.edu).
  • The ability to assign another attendee as the meeting host.
  • The ability to assign a co-host for meetings.
