Filtering Spam in Eudora 6.2.x for Mac — Basic

Set up mail filters to decrease junk mail (also known as spam) in your e-mail inbox. This basic form of filtering uses the spam status header to filter junk mail into a separate folder.

1. Create a spam filter.

  • Open Eudora.
  • Click the Window pull-down menu and select Filters.
  • In the Filters window, click the New button.
  • In the Match section of the window, select the Incoming and Manual check boxes.

2. Tell the filter what to look for.

  • In the Header: text box, click on the arrow to open the pull-down menu. Select <Any Header>.
  • Leave the next text box at the default contains setting.
  • In the text box to the right of contains, type the word YES in all caps.
  • Leave the next text box at the default ignore setting.
  • Leave the second Header: section blank.

3. Tell the filter what to do with spam.

  • In the Actions section, open the pull-down menu in the first None text box.
  • Select Transfer To from the pop-up menu.
  • When prompted, open the Transfer menu at the top of your screen and select New.
  • In the New Mailbox window, type Spam and then click OK.
  • Click on the red button at the top left of the Filters window. Save the filter when prompted.

4. Pay attention to filtered spam.

  • From now on, all incoming e-mail which appears to be "spam" will be automatically moved to the new folder you created.
  • It is possible for legitimate e-mail to be accidentally marked as spam. Periodically check the contents of this folder to ensure that this has not occurred before deleting its contents.
