Setting Up iPhone 2.0.x (and above) Mail Using IMAP

Follow these steps to set up iPhone 2.0.x (and above) to access your UCSD e-mail account using Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP).

Before you start:

  • You need your Active Directory (AD) username and password. If you forgot your password, you can reset it.
  • You need your network username and password.
  • If you aren't on the central campus mail server (mail.ucsd.edu), get your department's incoming mail server.
  • If you're using an Exchange server, you have the option of setting up iPhone 2.0.x Mail for Exchange and iPhone 3.0.x Mail for Exchange.

1. Set up an e-mail account.

  • If you haven't set up a mail account on your iPhone, select Mail from the main window.
  • If you're adding a Mail account to your iPhone, select Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and finally Add Account.

2. Select the account type.

  • Select Other to set up your IMAP account.

3. Specify account information.

  • Enter your Name, Address, AD password and Description (e-mail address).
  • Click Save.
  • Verify IMAP is selected.

4. Specify the incoming and outgoing servers.

  • Set the Incoming Mail Server Host Name to: mail.ucsd.edu
  • Enter your AD username and password. Your username is usually the part of your e-mail address before the @ symbol.
  • Set the Outgoing Mail Server Host Name to: smtp.ucsd.edu
  • Enter your Network username and password.
  • Select Save to save your settings.

5. Check your mail.

  • Select Mail to view your e-mail inbox.
