Blink Search Features

Find information on a variety of topics in Blink, multiple ways:

• Blink homepage Search! box: Located at the top-right of Blink's homepage, find information on service topics, glossary terms, or people in these provided fields:
  • Search Blink
  • All UCSD Sites
  • People Finder  
• Search Blink: This search box is located on the left-hand side of the page, just above the green departments box.  If you can't find your desired topic in the navigation above it, type your topic in the Search Blink field to continue searching.
• Topic navigation: All information on Blinkhas been divided into brad service-oriented topics. Click on Blink Tabs at the top of each page and select a topic-level home page.  These pages provide sub-topics and drill down into detailed content.
• UC San Diego search: Located at the top-right of every page, click the drop-down menu to the left of the text field to get these options:
  • This Site:
    • Enter keywords that relate to the topic or service you're seeking.
    • If you're already in Blink (indicated by the URL, blink.ucsd.edu) the search will return results from within Blink.
  • All UCSD Sites:
    • These results display Blink pages in addition to TritonLink, and the main campuswide site

Search for UCSD students by entering the student's last name or first name in the box to the right of "Search directory for" and changing the pull-down menu option to "Student."

Search for UCSD staff and faculty in the "Search directory for" field at the top of every Blink page. These tables offer examples of various ways you can enter search criteria to find staff and faculty.

You can also use the advanced directory search to find staff and faculty by:

• Department
• Payroll title
• Mail Code

Basic searching: Type in a few descriptive words about the service or topic and hit Go. Refine your search by adding more words to the search terms.

Broaden or restrict the search by including fewer or more terms. Google search features:

• Spelling: A spelling suggestion is returned where the spell checker has detected a possible spelling mistake.
• Capitalization: Google searches are not case sensitive.
• "AND" searches: There is no need to include "AND" between terms. Google only returns pages that include all of your search terms.
• "OR" searches: Google supports the logical "OR" operator. To retrieve pages that include either word A or word B, use an uppercase "OR" between terms.
• Wildcard searches: Google does not support wildcard searches.

Search the UCSD Title and Pay Plan by entering your search criteria in the "Search for" field near the top of every Blink page and changing the pull-down menu option to "Title & Pay." You can search by:

• Job title or keyword
  • Example: Administrative Assistant II
  • Example: admin asst
• Title code
  • Example: 4723

Use the advanced Title and Pay Plan search to search on additional criteria:

• Bargaining unit
  • Example: CX- Clerical
• Occupational group
  • Example: B15 - CLERICAL/ADMIN, SPECIAL/MAIL
