The Campus Research Machine Shop (CRMS) provides quality machined parts and welding services to faculty, students, staff, and outside customers.
The CRMS works with UCSD researchers and external clients to design and fabricate specialized equipment not available on the market. Skilled shop technicians utilize computer-operated mills and lathes to produce completed parts.
The CRMS assists researchers in designing equipment to meet their needs. MasterCam technology enables technicians to use CAD programs to run machines for fabricating parts. The shop also operates a fully stocked tool crib that sells materials and tools.
In addition to design consultation, shop services include:
Certified MIG & TIG welding
Machining and fabrication of super alloys and ceramics, including:
Fabrication using CNC lathes and sinker-and-wire EDM
CNC 4-axis milling
Sheet metal forming
