I serve on the Board of Directors of CENIC, the Microsoft Higher Education IT Advisory Council, the Curriki Advisory Board, the Sun Microsystems Academic Advisory Council, the Kuali Foundation Board of Directors, and the Sprint/ Nextel Higher Education Advisory Board.
Previously, I was the Director of UCLA's Administrative Information Systems department (AIS), served on the computing advisory board of the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, taught Information Systems Management graduate courses at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and served on the Board of Trustees of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
Some of the current and past initiatives that I am most proud of include: Blink - the UCSD faculty and staff portal; TritonLink – the UCSD student portal; the Link Family – an integrated set of Web-based administrative systems; the Communication Funding model – an innovative voice and data network funding mechanism; the UCSD Wireless Network; MyDashboard – a graphical digital dashboard for decision support; and the UCLA post audit review system.
On a personal level, I am an avid digital photographer, winner of the 2006 San Diego Performing Arts League STAR award and, in addition to my Ph.D. degree from UCLA, I have received a J.D. degree from the nation's first online law school.
