ITLC Report, September 2007

Computing

  • IT reorganization implemented in July 2007, consolidating network, security, and mail services in ACT.
  • Marketplace, a new e-procurement system using SciQuest, will launch next month.
  • A new campus portal and home page will be launched in December. The system uses Vignette portal and CMS technology and will be integrated with Blink and TritonLink.
  • UCTV is migrating its encoding mechanism from Real to Flash.
  • Effort reporting system is implemented and used by several pilot departments.
  • A Sun Blackbox was tested. We may buy at least one box for collocation purposes.
  • MapLink, a campus map system based on Google Maps, was implemented.
  • A generator was implemented to enhance disaster recovery capabilities of our data center.
  • Podcasting service implemented.
  • Upgraded 550 of 1,800 lab computers.

Communications

  • An extended campus-supported research network is being developed, providing PIs and labs with ultra high bandwidth (one or multiple 10gb connections), when needed.
  • A popular voice mail to e-mail service was implemented.
  • Cisco CSE 2020 was implemented to better control IP traffic per subscriber.

Security and Emergency

  • Enhanced minimum security standards published.
  • Stormworm prevention mechanism implemented via Single Sign-On.
  • Secure SMTP to enhance security of outgoing messages from off-campus locations.
  • Mazu network flow analysis tool.
  • Completed review of SQL injection vulnerability across all ACT applications.
  • MIR3 emergency text messaging system implemented.
  • Talk-A-Phone system implemented with PA system, emergency phone, surveillance camera, and wireless AP.
