Computing
- We have launched TritonLink, the UCSD student portal. It uses the Vignette portal and content management tools. Blink, the faculty and staff portal, was adjusted to have the same look and feel.
- The third phase of the campus Single Sign-On system is progressing. We added the ability to authenticate affiliates and we are now finalizing the development of the Roles subsystem.
- The minimum standards policy for network security is released and is now being proactively enforced.
- We released the new E-Bill and authorized-third-party software for students and parents/ guardians. Students can receive an e-mail notification in place of a mailed billing statement, and can authorize third parties to view and pay their account.
- MyTravel now captures about 25 percent of all University travel. We recently rolled to production Phase Two, which handles non-employee travel.
- About 100 fund managers are now using MyFunds to provide reports to principal investigators (PIs).
- We are preparing a campuswide survey of all PIs and fund managers in preparation for a strategic plan regarding further automation of sponsored project processes.
- We are progressing on work to migrate our databases from Sybase to DB2.
- We look forward to hosting UCCSC '06. We're forming committees and would like ITLC input.
- The number of instructional lab seats increased from 150 to 1,700 thanks to the opening of a new Computer Science Building.
- We now provide centralized service for the handling of credit card transactions that meets the PCI requirements.
- We are now offering CDigix for file-sharing services.
- WebCT 6 will be deployed soon.
Communications
- We await final approval on NGN2, the second five-year plan and funding model for the UCSD voice, data, and video network.
- We have deployed 10Gbps technology across the campus backbone.
- The campus's connection to CENIC's wide area research network is now 10Gbps. UCSD was the first campus in the nation to install a 10Gbps link to a wide area network.
- Instructional services, network services, and hardware repair help desks are now combined in a single location.
- We completed work on the expansion of student mail facilities and increased the quotas so the most basic user has a minimum of 100MB for message storage. Web-mail services are provided from a cluster for increased reliability.
