Computing
- TritonLink, the Student Portal, and Blink, the faculty and staff portal, have been integrated into a unified look and feel.
- Analysis work is in progress on a new home page for UCSD. It will be integrated with Blink and TritonLink, using the Vignette portal and content management system.
- The Blink Research tab has several new features, including a Google search of faculty expertise, and a search mechanism for research-related forms.
- Blink and TritonLink now have resources for parents.
- A new Summer Session application system is in place.
- John McCleary will retire in June 2006, and Karen Cangialosi will assume his responsibilities.
- UC Computing Services Conference (UCCSC) will be held at UCSD July 16-18. Registration opens this week, and the conference cost will not exceed $200. Learn more.
Communications
- NGN2, the second five-year plan and funding model for the UCSD voice, data, and video network, begins in July 2006 with unlimited flat-rate for domestic calling.
- A new voice mail system with unified messaging capabilities is coming soon.
- Recruitment of our Network Security Manager position was successful with the hiring of Logan Browne, formerly with HP.
- We are working with our Library on a DNS mechanism to intercept access to certain Web sites in order to substitute a survey before access to the original site is allowed.
- We're in the process of setting up a recharge file system service. It will be a fully-redundant file storage service offered to departments to consolidate monetary, labor, and administrative costs. A distributed file system will offer quick, dependable access to file storage without the technical overhead of operating the service, while retaining administrative control.
