Be Prepared for a Power Outage

Create a disaster plan:

• Create your department Emergency Action Plan.
• Create your department Business Continuity Plan.
• Practice and review your plans.
• Make an emergency supply kit, including food and water.
• Post emergency telephone numbers (including an out-of-state contact).
• Learn first aid and CPR.

• Turn on your flashlight.
• Turn off all electrical devices to avoid a surge during re-powering. You can leave one task light turned on to determine when service is restored.
• Evacuate to your designated assembly area for headcount and further instructions. Do not take the elevator.
• Take your personal belongings and emergency supply kit when leaving.
• Call to notify Facilities Management, (858) 534-2930.

• Check with officials before attempting to return.
• Be careful about fires, downed power lines, and other hazards.
• Know how to safely re-start electrical devices when power is restored.
