Parking: Where and When to Park

A properly dated A permit provides parking in the following spaces:

• A 24/7 (reserved faculty): 24 hours daily
  • Look for posted signs: “A permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week”
• A: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted red squares with a white A on the ground.
• B: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted green squares with a white B on the ground.
• S: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted yellow squares with a black S on the ground.
• R: by permission only, 24 hours daily
  • Look for a "Reserved ###" sign and matching stencil on the ground.
• Meters (with no fee): 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m.

Notes:

• You need an access stamp or sticker for Lots P001 - P010 and Lot P354.
• Alternate Schedule permits limit parking to 3 days of your choice.

A properly dated B permit provides parking in the following spaces:

• B: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted green squares with a white B on the ground.
• S: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted yellow squares with a black S on the ground.
• A: 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 a.m.weekdays; all day on weekends
  • Look for painted red squares with a white A on the ground.
  • Note: Not valid where posted “A permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
• Meters (with no fee): 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m.

Notes:

• You need an access stamp or sticker for Lots P001 - P010 and Lot P354.

  • Look for painted red squares with a white A on the ground.
  • Note: Not valid where posted “A permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
• B: 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m. weekdays, all day weekends
  • Look for painted green squares with a white B on the ground.
• Meters (with no fee): 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m. weekdays, all day weekends

A properly dated 1 Day permit lets you park for up to 24 hours in the following spaces:

• S: 24 hours
  • Look for painted yellow squares with a black S on the ground.
• B: 24 hours
  • Look for painted green squares with a white B on the ground.
• A: 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Look for painted red squares with a white A on the ground.
  • Note: Not valid where posted "A permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."
• V (not including Gilman Parking Structure): 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 a.m.
  • Look for painted white squares with a black V on the ground.
  • Note: 1 Day permits are never valid in Gilman Parking Structure V spaces.
• Meters (with no fee): 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m.

A properly dated 1 Night permit lets you park for 1 evening in the following spaces:

• S: 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 a.m.
  • Look for painted yellow squares with a black S on the ground.
• B: 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 a.m.
  • Look for painted green squares with a white B on the ground.
• A: 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Look for painted red squares with a white A on the ground.
  • Note: Not valid where posted “A permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week” 
• V: 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 a.m.
  • Look for painted white squares with a black V on the ground.
  • Never valid in Gilman Parking Structure V spaces
• Meters (with no fee): 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m.

Note: Pay station permits bought outside Gilman Parking Structure are never valid for any space inside Gilman Parking Structure.

Pay Station permits (not including those sold inside Gilman Parking Structure):

A properly dated permit purchased from any pay station (except inside Gilman Parking Structure; see below) provides parking for campus visitors in the following spaces:

• V: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted white squares with a black V on the ground.
  • Never valid in Gilman Parking Structure V spaces
• B: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted green squares with a white B on the ground.
  • Never valid in Gilman Parking Structure B spaces
• S: 24 hours daily
  • Look for painted yellow squares with a black S on the ground.
• A: 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 a.m.
  • Look for painted red squares with a white A on the ground.
  • Note: Not valid where posted “A permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week” and never valid in Gilman Parking Structure A spaces.
• Meters (with no fee): 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m.

Pay Station permits sold inside Gilman Parking Structure:

A properly dated permit purchased from a pay station inside the Gilman Parking Structure allow parking in the following spaces:

• Inside Gilman Parking Structure (Note: no parking allowed inside structure 2–5 a.m.)
  • V (levels 1–3) 
  • A and B (levels 4–6) after 4:30 p.m.
• Outside Gilman Parking Structure
  • V
  • S
  • B
  • A: 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 a.m.
    • Note: Not valid where posted “A permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
  • Meters (with no fee): 4:30 p.m. – 7:45 a.m.

Note: You need an access stamp or sticker for Lots P001 - P010 and Lot P354.

An Official Business (OB) sticker affixed to your R, A, or B parking permit is intended to facilitate parking access during official university business. It is not intended to accommodate an individual’s personal parking needs.

A valid UCSD parking permit with the OB sticker affixed and properly displayed, allows parking in the following areas, subject to time limits detailed below:

• Service yard spaces
• Timed zones
• UC vehicle spaces
• Parking meters
• Regular loading zones (excludes commercial loading zones)
• Where posted “A parking permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week”
• Red A spaces
• Green B spaces
• Yellow S spaces
• White V spaces

The following limits apply, depending on your UCSD parking permit (R, A, or B):

• A or R permits:
  • Park in metered and V spaces up to 4 hours.
  • Park in all other approved spaces for unlimited time.
• B parking permits:
  • Park in green B and yellow S spaces for unlimited time.
  • Park in all other approved spaces, including meters and V spaces, for up to 2 hours.

Paid parking permits are required year-round, even when classes are not in session.

However, you can park on campus without charge in A, B, S, or metered spaces during these periods:

• Weekends: Parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Late nights: Parking is free 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. weekdays. However, overnight parking is not allowed 2–5 a.m. wherever posted, including the following areas:
  • Gilman Parking Structure (map)
  • Lot P406 (map)
  • Lot P502 (map)
• University holidays: Refer to the current calendar.
• Exceptions: Any exceptions to the above will be announced at parking.ucsd.edu. If no announcement was made, assume permits are required or contact parking enforcement, (858) 822-3379.

Caution: Avoid citations. Parking permit regulations are enforced every day, without exception, where posted:

• “A permit required 7 days a week, 24 hours a day”
• Disabled: See Parking with Disabled Person Placards or License Plates.
• UC vehicles only
• Service yard
• Loading zone
• Reserved
• Special event reserved
