Find out about reserved and disabled parking spaces, which require specific permits and/or authorization.

Expand all

"A" permit required 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

The following permits are never valid in "A" 24/7 parking spaces:

  • Annual "B" or "S"
  • Limited "B" or "S" status
  • Occasional Use, "B" or "S" status
  • Night/ Weekend (quarterly or annual)
  • 1 Day
  • Visitor

Note: You must display either an annual "A" permit or a short-term-use permit that specifically authorizes "A" 24/7 parking.

Carpool "A", "B", or "S"

Only registered carpoolers have permission to park in reserved carpool spaces.

  • Your vehicle must display a valid annual permit with a current carpool sticker.
  • Get your carpool sticker when you register your carpool at Commute Solutions. See How to Participate in a Carpool.
  • Occasional Use permits — issued to each registered carpooler — are never valid in reserved carpool spaces.

Disabled

Vehicles parking in Disabled spaces must always display a Disabled Person placard or plates. See details about disabled (accessible) parking.

Reserved (Individual)

A numbered reserved space indicates individual ownership. The owner must display a numbered reserved permit that matches the posted and/ or stenciled number of the space.

Use of an individual's reserved space by someone other than the owner requires both:

  1. Authorization from the owner, and
  2. Display of a permit with at least "B" status

Note: Vehicles without a valid UCSD parking permit displayed will be cited.

Reserved "D" (Departmental)

A numbered reserved space with a "D" suffix indicates department ownership.

  • Only authorized university guests may park in a reserved department parking space — no permit required.
  • Transportation Services does not issue parking permits for reserved department parking spaces.
  • The department controls access to its reserved parking space and may request enforcement as necessary.

Note: UCSD employees may never park in reserved department spaces.

Special Event

Temporary Special Event signs or blue-bagged meters indicate reserved Special Event parking.

  • Sponsoring departments pay for these short-term-use spaces for invited guests to meetings, symposiums, events, etc.

UC Vehicles (University Vehicles)

Only designated UC vehicles can park in reserved UC Vehicles spaces.

  • You must have permission from the Parking Office or Parking Compliance to park in a UC Vehicles space while using a personal vehicle for official university business.
