Observe posted parking signs.

Pay attention to:

  • Parking lot entrance signs indicate the type(s) of permit(s) required and hours of enforcement.
  • Individual space signs and stencils within lots and next to buildings indicate restricted reserved parking (enforced 24 hours daily) or time-controlled zones.

Park only in areas clearly designated for parking.

Without explicit authorization from the Parking Office to park in undesignated areas, park clear of:

  • Unmarked curbs
  • Walkways
  • Undeveloped areas
  • Landscaped areas
  • Areas under construction
  • Any other unmarked area

Park clear of fire lanes and zones.

Never park:

  • Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
  • Blocking a fire lane
  • Along a red curb

Display an access stamp or sticker in lots where they are required.

If you plan to park in the following lots during the hours listed, you must pick up and display an access stamp or sticker (no additional fee) that affixes to your UCSD parking permit.

  • Lot #P010 (map)
    • Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO)
    • 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. daily
    • SIO access stickers are available at the SIO Director's office to SIO affiliates only.
  • Lot #P354 (map)
    • San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC)
    • 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays
    • SDSC access stickers are available at the SDSC reception desk to SDSC affiliates only.
  • Service Yard spaces
    • 24 hours daily
    • Service Yard access stickers are available at the campus parking office. To request approval, e-mail the parking sales and service manager.

You may not repair a vehicle on university property.

  • Only in an emergency situation or by authorization from Transportation Services can you repair your vehicle on university property.
  • If your vehicle breaks down, forcing you to park illegally, notify Parking Compliance, (858) 534-8108, immediately.
  • The Motorist Assistance Program (MAP), (858) 534-8108, can help you with:
    • A battery jump
    • Lockout assistance (manual locks only)
    • An empty fuel tank
    • Tire inflation

You may not camp in a vehicle on university property.

On rare occasions, and generally for medically related circumstances, Transportation Services may authorize camping on university property.

Make sure your DMV registration is current.

The UCSD Police will issue you a ticket for:

  • Not having a current month and/or year sticker on your rear license plate
  • Having damaged or illegible stickers

If you correct the problem within 21 days of receiving the citation, notify the Citation Appeals Office to cancel the citation.
