Express Card: Inactive Express Card Review Process

Learn about the review process for inactive Express Cards.

The Express Card Program Team (ECPT) periodically reviews Express Cards to identify cards that either have little or no activity or have not been activated to ensure proper accountability and control.

If you are an Express Card Department Administrator you may receive an email asking you to review certain Express Cards that have been inactive for 12 consecutive months and more. If you receive an email:

  • Review the account to determine if the card is still necessary.
  • If the card is no longer needed it should be cancelled and destroyed.
  • If the card is needed, advise the cardholder that they should use the card within the next 30 days. If the card is not used within the 30 days it will be cancelled by the ECPT without further notice.

If you are a cardholder you may receive an email reminding you to activate your Express Card. If you receive an email:

  • Activate the Express Card immediately. If the card is not activated within the next 30 days the card will be cancelled without further notice.
  • If you determine you no longer need the card send a request to cancel the card to your Express Card Department Administrator.

Note: If a card expires that has been inactive for 12 consecutive months U.S. Bank will not reissue the card and the account will be closed.
