Steelcase Overview

On Sept. 1, 2001, the University of California finalized a contract with Steelcase, Inc. The information below provides a summary of contract information and a link to a step-by-step ordering process.

Note: Use Marketplace, UCSD's online buying site to order Steelcase from BKM or STORE if your department has access.

  • If you're not sure that your department has access, check the list of departments and representatives (Excel) to find out.
  • If your department is listed, you can go directly to Marketplace and start shopping. If you can't find the item you want, contact the UC Call Center, (877) 722-9090 for assistance.

Furniture types covered by Steelcase: According to the Steelcase contract, when you buy the following types of furniture in steel and/or laminate, you must buy Steelcase products only:

  • Tables, including conference room, meeting room, and office tables
  • Chairs, including task and side chairs
  • File cabinets
  • Free-standing steel and laminate desks
  • Bookcases
  • Paneled office systems

Other types of furniture may be purchased from either Steelcase or other vendors. Please see Furniture Overview for details.

How to buy Steelcase furniture: If you plan to purchase furniture from Steelcase, contact Steelcase Representatives to obtain catalogues, product literature and samples. Then follow step-by-step procedures that will help the buying process go smoothly.

Although this is UCSD's primary agreement, if you believe you have reason to purchase furniture covered by this contract from a vendor other than Steelcase, please contact Brant Yancey in Purchasing, (858) 534-6721. Brant will confer with Purchasing management before an exception can be made.
