Find answers to commonly asked questions about the Equipment Insurance Savings (EIS) Program.
The EIS Program is brought to you by Procurement and Contracts and Risk Management to save 25% on equipment service agreements.
This program is being implemented across the entire UC System.
By pooling the risk of costly repairs, the UC System can realize substantial savings.
The Remi Group administers the program. Note that the Remi Group does not provide any of the maintenance services.
You choose who performs the maintenance and repairs except for IT products. It can be the manufacturer or any other company. In addition, The Remi Group may also find a qualified service provider. If the Remi service provider costs less than the provider you choose, you may be responsible for paying the difference.
Most manufacturer agreements contract with third party service providers. REMI has also selected a third party provider.
UCOP has developed the program to reduce the high cost of equipment maintenance agreements for the UC System and has selected The Remi Group to administer the program.
The EIS Program covers agreements for repairs on electronic equipment. It does not cover agreements which cover only preventative maintenance or any software components.
The savings for this program are created by spreading the risk of expensive equipment repairs. Without the repair portion of the agreement, there is no opportunity for savings.
Equipment failure can result in an unplanned costly repair expense as well as unnecessary downtime. A service agreement allows a department to fix the cost for maintenance and repairs up front.
By leveraging equipment across the UC System, the risk of a costly repair can be spread across more equipment, thus lowering the cost for everyone.
Primarily electronic equipment, including the following examples. Agreements that only cover software can not be covered.
