Effective January 1, 2012, the University is implementing the Phased Retirement Program for the period of January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2014.
The University Phased Retirement Program is an optional tool that provides eligible policy covered staff the opportunity to transition into retirement by reducing their appointment percentages over a period from 120 days to up to three years. The program is part of the University's budget reduction and succession planning strategies. For employees represented by unions, eligibility for the program is subject to collective bargaining.
The following administrative areas have elected to implement the program:
Career employees working 60% time or greater as of their approved enrollment date in the program who are active UC Retirement Plan members aged 55 and over with five years of retirement service credit as of their approved enrollment date in the program, except Senior Management Group Members, may be eligible.
The program is currently available to policy covered (99) and CUE (CX) staff.
Procedures for requesting participation in the program vary. Please review the procedures for your area.
Employee Relations will contact departments with final approval to implement employee participation.
The Phased Retirement Program follows the same process as ERIT using the new DOS codes below, but bypassing the leave screen. Do not enter data on the ELVE screen.
