February 15, 2012

Please join me in supporting the 2012 UC San Diego United Way/CHAD Campaign.  This year our theme is “Community Matters, Imagine the Impact of Your Support.”  This is an appropriate theme because over the years, many UC San Diego employees have chosen to care for the needs of the San Diego community with a contribution to United Way/CHAD.  We are grateful that we are able to continue our participation in this worthy cause.

The 2012 UC San Diego United Way/CHAD Campaign will commence on Wednesday, February 15, and will continue through Friday, April 13, 2012.   You also may contribute beyond that date.

As you are aware, United Way/CHAD of San Diego helps locally based agencies distribute funds and other resources to the people of San Diego County.  I am a strong supporter of this cause and I urge you to help us collectively respond to the needs of the many individuals and families within our community.  Our Campaign provides the opportunity for us to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Thousands of San Diego residents continue to be impacted by the economic crisis so your gift this year will be especially more meaningful than ever before.  Your contributions will support various community programs, including those that help children and youth achieve their potential through education initiatives, teach financial self-sufficiency to struggling families and youth, improve community health by providing the homeless with permanent housing and the mental health, medical, and other services they need, and protect children from abuse and neglect.

I am proud of our campus community and I applaud those of you who volunteer time, energy and financial resources to this cause.  Each of us is critical to the success of UC San Diego’s efforts to be an active member of the San Diego community.  For this year’s Campaign to succeed, all of us must become involved and act with our hearts’ compassion.

You can use an electronic process to make your pledge by following the instructions at:  http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/unitedway.  A list of UC San Diego recipient agencies can also be found on this website.  If you prefer to make a contribution using a paper pledge form, please contact your Department Coordinator.  Your department coordinator’s contact information can be found at:  http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/unitedwaycoordinators

On behalf of the United Way/CHAD agencies and the University, I thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Marye Anne Fox
Chancellor
