The University of California sponsors the FitWell program as part of its commitment to creating a positive, healthy work environment.
FitWell is a free program designed to help faculty and staff work more effectively, reduce injuries, illness and stress, increase stamina, and create a healthy and fit lifestyle on and off the job.
Group sessions for departments: FitWell offers group sessions for about 10 people. The 30-minute sessions are held twice a week for 8 to 12 weeks at your work site and include:
- Stretching
- Core strengthening
- Total body strengthening
- Cardiovascular exercise
- Nutritional information
FitWell programs are tailored to the physical duties of a department's employees (lifting, twisting, reaching, bending, standing, sitting, etc.).

FitWell Walking: Group session participants can also take advantage of FitWell Walking, designed to educate, motivate, and empower employees to make healthy lifestyle choices. FitWell will provide free to each participant:
- A pedometer
- Walking routes
- Contests and prizes
Benefits for supervisors: FitWell helps employees prevent long-term injuries and increases:
- Work productivity
- Quality of work and personal life
- Stamina and energy
- Morale
- Teamwork
FitWell will also help decrease:
- Stress
