Staff Associations at UCSD

Learn about the UJIMA Network, an alliance of the black community at UCSD.

Mission
The UJIMA Network, an alliance of black staff, faculty, students, alumni, and community at UCSD, endeavors to create a medium which will foster opportunities for African-American staff, faculty, students, alumni, and community members. The UJIMA Network supports all programs and services aimed at advancing the educational, cultural, and professional conditions of African-American individuals internal and external to the campus community.

Goals and objectives

  • To establish a network for information exchange to assist and support African-American colleagues in achieving their professional and personal goals
  • To identify, analyze, and remove any barriers existing at the campus and systemwide levels that might serve as a deterrent to the University's commitment to diversity. This includes monitoring the University's outreach efforts such as recruitment, hiring, and retention with respect to African-American faculty, staff, students, and other underrepresented groups
  • To serve as a community support-building liaison group to improve University/ community relations
  • To provide support for UCSD African-American faculty, staff, and students as well as other underrepresented groups with respect to issues affecting their well-being in the campus community
  • To encourage and provide members access to key decision-makers at the UCSD campus
  • To facilitate campus forums and conferences for the purpose of encouraging dialogue among various constituents on relevant issues/ topics related to diversity and the UCSD Principles of Community

Community events: We hope you were able to attend many of the Black History Month events this year.

Membership is open to all UCSD faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members interested in supporting our mission.

  • To join, e-mail Pamela Fruge and ask to be added to the UJIMA listserv.
