Travel Card Management  
 
Summary: Find out about management of the UCSD Travel Card Program, including automatic account cancellation.

The UCSD Travel Card is for employees to use for preauthorized University business travel and official entertainment expenses. Learn about Travel Card use and benefits.

The UCSD Travel Card Program management works to ensure appropriate use and reduce risk exposure to the University and cardholders, including:


Activate your new card immediately for security, and to avoid cancellation and the need to apply for a new account:

  • Call the toll-free number you received with the card. At the prompt, enter your:
    • 16-digit Travel Card number
    • 5-digit billing address ZIP code
    • Last 4 digits of your Social Security number
    • Business phone number beginning with area code
  • Use the card number with travel agencies or other suppliers or vendors, such as car rental companies.

Register your account online. The first time you access your account, you will need to register:

  1. Go to https://access.usbank.com.
  2. Click Register Online.
  3. Enter UofCA for company short name.
  4. Type your 16-digit account number in the Account Number field.
  5. Select the month and year that your account expires.
  6. Type your account billing address ZIP code.
  7. Click Register This Account.
  8. Click I Accept for the licensing agreement, if you agree.
  9. Create your User ID (7-12 characters alpha and/or numeric, and must be unique).
  10. Create your Password (8-20 characters, with at least one alpha and one numeric character).
  11. Complete User Verification, which authenticates your account if you forget your user ID or password.
  12. Complete contact information details.

Note: If you entered invalid information or encountered an error message, you have 3 attempts to correct your information. If all 3 attempts fail, you will be locked out of self-registration and will need to contact U.S. Bank Customer Service, (877) 887-9260.

You will receive a PIN several days after you receive your card. If needed, you can obtain cash before you get your PIN. You can also change your PIN after you receive it. Check Travel Card FAQ to learn more.

Timely payment of all balances:

To avoid penalties and additional expense for the University, you must keep your UCSD Travel Card account current. Timely payment by all employees is essential to the success of the entire program.

If timely payment of your account becomes an issue, your business office will become involved and is required to dedicate immediate attention to the collection process. Additionally, the Controller's Office will be notified and may become involved. Each employee is responsible for keeping his/ her own account current.

Automatic account cancellation due to inactivity:

If your account is inactive, it will be automatically canceled. Your account is considered inactive if:

  • You have not activated the card
  • You have not used the card for the previous year

If your account has been canceled due to inactivity, follow the application instructions to reapply.

Suspension of the strip-billing feature:

When you charge airfare to the Travel Card, the expense is automatically paid by UCSD strip-billing.

This feature is turned off if you use the card inappropriately, such as charging airfare without first obtaining a travel event number.

If this happens, any future airfare purchases will be included in the balance due. You can request reimbursement only after travel is over.
