Make safety awareness a key part of the work experience that student employees gain from UCSD.
Student employees are indispensable at UCSD. Make sure each one is fully trained to work in a manner that protects not only themselves, but everyone with whom they interact. Mentoring or assigning someone more experienced to train the student worker can make a difference.
Basic safety training requirement: Student workers receiving compensation from UCSD must attend one of the Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) training sessions below, depending on the work environment:
Note: IIPP training is recommended for anyone working in a laboratory or other high-hazard environment, regardless of payroll status.
Individual supervisors must identify job-specific hazards and make sure their employees attend safety training appropriate to the type of work they perform. Select a category to see required and recommended training:
If you have questions about required and recommended safety training for the kind of work you perform at UCSD, contact the EH&S safety training manager, (858) 822-5974. If Environment, Health & Safety doesn't offer the training you need, other resources will be recommended.
