Department Index
Leasing Microsoft Software

Summary: Investigate the benefits of leasing (instead of buying) Microsoft software.

Background: UCSD's Microsoft Consolidated Campus Agreement (MCCA) enables departments to lease, instead of buy, the most popular Microsoft software.

How software leasing works: The MCAA offers departments with Windows-based computers the option to purchase annually renewable software leases per employee instead of per computer. The deadline to lease for for the next academic year occurs each spring. By leasing, you can:
  • Eliminate multiple license purchases by licensing your whole department for a year at one low price
  • Keep up with the most current technology
  • Eliminate the need to track licenses for individual products on individual computers
MCAA pricing is based on the number of full time employees (FTEs) in a department. If you have more computers than full-time staff, or if you upgrade your Microsoft operating systems and software often, the MCAA will save you money.
