Hotels: UC Agreements and Occupancy Tax Exemption
|
|
| |
|
Summary: Find out about discounted hotel rates and possible exemptions from occupancy tax when you travel on UCSD business. |
|
UC agreements with hotels provide nationwide discounted rates for employees and visitors whose University business travel expenses will be paid by UCSD. These agreements typically include most of the hotels in the following chains:
Additional UC agreements include the following hotels:
Note: See an index of all UC agreements (limited access is available).
A city-specific agreement is an arrangement made between a specific campus and a hotel. UCSD currently has no city-specific agreements, but a hotel may offer a discounted rate if you inquire when making a reservation. You can also check hotel rates on the Internet for competitive prices.
The occupancy/ transient tax exemption is an additional cost-saving strategy for certain California hotel stays. Please see additional information about tax exempions(PDF) for details.
To pay for any type of lodging while on UCSD business, use one of these methods:
- Personal form of payment (request reimbursement after travel has concluded)
- Prepayment using TravelLink
Note: If you ask to claim the occupancy/ transient tax exemption, the hotel may not allow you to pay by one of the two methods above. In this case, you won't be able to claim the exemption.
For instructions on paying a hotel deposit, see Paying for Conference Registration or Hotel Deposit (U.S. Currency).
To claim the tax exemption:
- Identify yourself as a University employee.
- Claim exemption from the tax.
- Complete a tax exemption certificate if provided by the hotel.
