Department Index
Job and Access Accommodation Funding Resources

Summary: See possible funding resources for accommodating UCSD departments, employees, job applicants, and event participants who have disabilities.

If your department needs funding for accommodations for individuals with disabilities, check with Accommodation Counseling and Consulting Services, (858) 534-6744, about the possible funding resources below:

  • Department funds serve as the primary source for reasonable accommodation expenses for the following individuals with disabilities who request accommodations:
    • Job applicants
    • Current staff and faculty members
    • Meeting and event participants

  • Supplemental funds can be requested in addition to or instead of department funds. In this case, department heads or deans request supplemental funding from their area vice chancellor or senior vice chancellor.

  • The California Department of Vocational Rehabilitation may provide funding to enable or support employment of people with disabilities who meet stringent eligibility requirements. Funding may include limited partial salary reimbursement for on-the-job training that leads to long-term employment.

  • Sedgwick Claims Management Services, UCSD's Workers' Compensation third-party administrator, may fund limited types of equipment prescribed by a physician and necessary for continued employment of an employee with a permanent disability and with an accepted Workers' Compensation claim.

Note: Granting agencies, such as the National Science Foundation, may provide additional funding for job accommodation of funded grant researchers. To check on the availability of this type of funding, contact the awarding grant agency directly.

For more information about job and access accomodation funding options, contact Barry Niman, (858) 534-6743.
