Substance Abuse Guide: Where to Get Help

Summary: UCSD has designed a variety of support programs and services to help prevent substance abuse by employees and students.

Assistance and referral services: Counseling and psychological services regarding substance abuse are available at UCSD or through referral. Information disclosed by an employee or student who is participating in counseling or an employee support program is confidential, in accordance with federal and state laws and University policies.

Employees: Employee support programs are available to assist employees with a wide range of personal or medical problems. Services include assessment, referral to community resources, consultation, supervisory training, return-to-work assistance, and follow-up. All services are free and available to the employee's family members or individuals in the employee's household. Students: Psychological and Counseling Services, (858) 534-3755, not only provides counseling to students, but also assists and consults with members of the UCSD community who work with students. Students are encouraged to voluntarily seek help for alcohol- and substance-dependency problems. All information regarding the contact or any follow-up counseling or assistance is confidential and will be treated in accordance with federal and state law and University policies. All services are free.

A student's voluntary decision to seek assistance will not be used in connection with any academic determination or as a basis for disciplinary action.
