Participation requirements
As an ACT employee, you're eligible to have an ACT cell phone if you demonstrate a valid business purpose by meeting specific criteria, and you have your supervisor's approval. However, due to financial considerations, meeting the criteria doesn't guarantee participation.
- Management: You are in a managerial role and a critical component of your job responsibilities is contact with staff, clients, and other management.
- Work location: Your job often takes you away from your primary work location, either to service clients or complete work assignments.
- Emergencies: You participate in the emergency response team for ACT and/ or could be called upon to solve critical issues that may arise during the day.
- On call: You are either on call or expected to respond to problems during non-business hours.
Service plan selection
Select the least expensive plan from UCSD service providers. Base your choice on projected business usage patterns, including whether a group calling program is suitable. Your manager will review your cellular bills to ensure adherence to the policy and to review the appropriateness of your plan.

Personal use
ACT recognizes that you'd prefer to carry just one phone and that incidental personal use is acceptable as long as it doesn't violate University policies. You should reimburse the department on a monthly or quarterly basis for personal use charges that exceed the base cost of the plan.
Cell phone purchases
Generally, cellular phones will be purchased by ACT managers, but occasionally, managers may authorize staff to do so. In this case your manager will e-mail you approval to purchase the phone through
Bookstore, and send a copy to Justina Houston. The e-mail will remind you to give Justina the serial number and other identification information once you purchase the phone.
