Leaves of absence: Maternity, paternal, family medical leave (FMLA), military, and medical leave are some of the options covered by UC leave policies and collective bargaining agreements.
Examples of leaves include:
- Employees disabled from work due to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions are entitled to a leave of absence upon request not to exceed four months.
- Employees who request an extended leave due to a personal illness or illness of the employee's child, spouse, same or opposite-sex domestic partner, or parent are granted a leave of absence. Family and medical leave includes, for example:
- A serious health condition of the employee, the employee's child, spouse, same or opposite-sex domestic partner, or parent
- Bonding with a newborn, adopted, or foster care child
